Life is racing by!
Can't believe it is April already, where does the time go? Kate has two teeth on the bottom and Sean is putting together little sentences. We have had a ton a visitors over the last 2 months. My Mum, Mike's parents, his brother and sister in law and her parents and their two boys, his sister, old friends we haven't seen in 4 years, etc, etc. We have been going to all kinds of parties on the island, had friends over for dinners and I started a book club so my girlfriends and I could get together talk about books and drink wine! Sean is loving preschool, he now goes 5 days a week, and will break in early June. Both of the kids do something new and fabulous everyday, I keep telling myself I will write in their journals more often (it was one of my new years resolutions) but I am almost as bad at that as trying to keep up with this blog. Time simply runs faster than I can keep up with it. You would think living on an island I would slow down and relax, believe me I would like to, but it just doesn't seem to be working out that way for me. :)

Feb. already??
Where does the time go? oh yeah, it runs away with diaper changes, and drooly smiles, new teeth, demolition derby toy crashes and new bumps on the head. Ah the life of little babies.
Kate is going on month 7 and right on track, she is trying to push herself up when she is on her stomach and rolls over too. She is most smiley after a good nap or first thing in the morning. Sean says new words daily, yesterday it was cheek, as he pinches his own cheeks and twists them. The day before that it was Please, and the day before that it was Shark. He is a learning sponge, and we are learning it is vital to watch what we say around him. He is getting his canines now and has discovered that standing up on the couch gets a panicked response from Mummy and Daddy. He loves preschool, where they are learning letters, colours and shapes.
Mike and I try to make time for each other, but it usually involves the kids. I am not comfortable leaving them with people yet. So we all walk down to the pub and sit outside and watch the sun set. You can see it too, at www.muckyduck.com. They have a webcam, check it around sunset and you may see the four of us out there....

Happy New Year
Hi all,
Big news! Sean has moved from a crib to a twin size mattress! It did not go over well at all at first, but he has adjusted quickly. He even put himself down for a 10 minute nap today all by himself. After Mum and Laura left on the 27th we had a 5 day rest period and then Mike's brother Steve and sister Katherine and her boyfriend Kyle fly in for a long weekend. They attended the Orange Bowl in Miami and saw the Hokies WIN!!! They have gone fishing, sunbathing, parasailing and even made a batch of beer.
Sean starts preschool next Monday, it was supposed to be today but it got pushed back a week. I am still super nervous about dropping him off on his first day, he is only 19 months old, but I know the socialization will be really good for him and I could really use that time to run errands with Kate. Speaking of Kate, she is rolling over, eating solid foods and smiling all the time! I think she will be crawling in no time. She is very strong and does tummy crunches to try to sit up when she is on her back. I will try to uploand pics for all to see real soon!

Family time
It is 2 days before Xmas and our house is overloaded with Xmas gifts!! SO many gifts, mostly for the 2 babies. I will have to take a picture to show them how many they had because they won't remember this Christmas. They are too young. We have my Mum and Sister here and my brother in law and sister and law are coming on New Year's day. It is that time of year for family to visit. Although the house is cramped with bodies it is a warm feeling that only family can give you. We have had some fabulous weather recently and it was nice enough for Mum and I to go parasailing! I would never have gone had it not been for the prodding of Mum. From 800 feet above the water I saw a school of rays, that was AWESOME! Sean is LOVING all the additional attention he is getting and Kate is completely smitten with her Aunt. Whenever Laura walks into the room, Kate watches her like a hawk. I mean I know Laura is beautiful and all but why Kate is so focused on her I don't know? Perhaps she sees herself in Laura?
We are buying Sean a twin size mattress for Xmas, he is moving to a big boy bed, and Kate will move from her bassinet to a crib.
Today will be my last day of work for 13 days! Let the vacation begin! Well let it begina t 5 since it is only 9:38am right now...oh well. :)

Sorry for the delay...
Man how time flies! We went to Wilmington the day after Thanksgiving for time with the family. Mike's parents and sister got to meet Kate for the first time. We caught up with friends we hadn't seen in 10 years and the kids charmed everyone. Mike and I even escaped for some long walks through lovely neighborhoods.
Now that December is upon us and people in the rest of the US are putting up with cold temps and snow, we have highs in the low 80's and the weather is gorgeous. Mum flew in for Xmas and my sister is on her way too. Sean is starting preschool in Jan. and Kate is rolling over. I can't beleive how quickly they are growing. Each day I look at Sean and at 19 months he looks more and more like a little boy every day and less like a baby. He is walking like a pro and refining his fine motor skills. He has quite the vocabulary now and understands so much! Kate is 14 pounds now, beautiful little curls on top of her head and she smiling A LOT. She watched Sean like a hawk, he is always a good source of entertainment. She is finally sleeping through the night and is starting to eat solid food. She is not a fan of the rice cereal, but she likes the bananas. She "talks" constantly. The house is always busy and never quite.
I have a lovely little routine on the days I am home, I get up early go for a run and stop off at the starbucks near my house then I walk back and get the kids up for breakfast. We play for a few hours, then Sean goes down for a nap and when he gets up we walk to the post office, no mail delivery on the island, you have to have a PO Box. If the weather is nice we walk to the beach. Sean likes to collect sea shells, but is not a fan of getting sand on his hands.
Anyway emough rambling I will include a pic of us

September Already!
Wow, how time flies, Mike and I are trying to get into the groove of island life, we take a walk each night on the beach and collect a few sea shells. Sean goes in the Kelty backpack, he looks like the "pasha" of Captiva riding on his elephant (i.e. Mike), Kate now holds her head up so she goes in the snugli (a front carrier). We try to get out of the house at least once a day to enjoy where we live, but it can be a daunting task, between nap times, feeding schedules and work schedules we sometimes feel more like we live at the zoo. Especially with the smell from the diapers!
Sean is walking everywhere now, he does not tolerate being in the car seat for long rides anymore, which makes going to the mainland a "fun" trip. He is hilarious nonetheless. He helps collect sea shells and loves taking baths to get the sand off afterwards. He mimics everything Mike and I do from putting on shoes and socks to talking on the cell phone. He says "Maggie" "Mummy" "Daddy" and "Ball", he knows where his ear, belly button and nose are and will happily show you where yours are too. He talks nonstop, and sometimes quite adamantly.
Kate is growing like a weed, I think she must be nearly 10 pounds by now. She only wakes once in the night to be fed, but moves around a lot and often needs to have her bottle adjusted. She is holding her head up a lot these days and is very curious about her surroundings. She is awake more and more during the day, taking in all the goings on. Sean is enamored with her and likes to point at her. When he hears her cry he looks and me and yells "mummy" and then points in her direction. I will try to upload some new pics, take care and I hope to update soon, we are headed to Atlanta to see our very best friends Donna and Walter next Monday for a week, it will be nice to see them and have some adult time too.
Later days!

Sorry for the Delay
Wow am I ever behind! Well, with good reason! Katherine Vera (Kate) was born on July 24Th at 9:20pm and less than two weeks later we moved to Captiva Island. It has been a whirlwind to say the least. As I write this on my computer in my sun room, I am looking into the backyard at luscious foliage and mango trees, Mike is changing the brakes on his car after hauling a trailer to help with the move. Kate is napping and so is Sean a rare moment indeed.
Sean is walking now A LOT, and is getting more teeth, this time molars. His current favourite word is "Mummy" since he knows it gets my attention and then he points to what it is he wants me to get for him. He toddles all over the house, so we now have baby gates up.
Kate is 4 weeks old, and is holding her head up a lot for her age. She is eager to see her surroundings.
Maggie, Jack and Clyde are settling in nicely, Clyde is a bit wary of the outside, but Jack has no problems going in and out. We have to keep Maggie on a leash because there is no fence and there are raccoons that roam the property.
We have had quite a bit of wildlife indoors too, loads of lizards, mostly tiny, but we have geckos and anoles. lots of millipedes which are harmless and move at a snail's pace so they are easy to catch. I just have to get them before Sean sees them or they go into his mouth, and lastly Cockroaches, I have seen a few, which Mike has diligently disposed of. I know we live in Florida, don't get me wrong, but these roaches are something from a horror movie, they are at least 3 inches long and they fly, and they are nearly impossible to kill. Thankfully I have only seen 3 and Mike has killed all three. Hopefully word will get out to their cousins. On a happier note we walk to the beach, a lazy stroll that takes about 2 minutes from our house, nearly every evening. I have Kate in the sling and Mike puts Sean in a Kelty backpack and we get our mail at the post office which is only a few hundred feet from the house. No mail is delivered to houses on the island everyone has a PO box. We collect a few seashells and then head back to put the kids to bed.
On the days that Mike works we tried to be at the house when the kids are awake to give me a hand, unless he gets a call out. Once they are down, he runs radar, does area checks and lets his presence be known.
Today we went to Ding Darling Nature preserve for a 4 mile walk. For future notice, taking a 4 mile walk in August, in Florida, at high noon with 2 small children.... not the best idea I have ever had. But I am glad for the exercise, I have a lot of weight to lose and it isn't gonna lose itself. I will try to post some new pics of Kate, Sean and the house, and I hope not to be so long in my next posting.
